We believe that music nourishes. And we wondered, as the music sustains our spirits, stirs our hearts and stimulates our minds, could we together sustain the movement of the music and team up to share some sustenance with a few hungry children who's bodies also need nourishment?
So a few weeks ago, we began by inviting anyone to name your price for digital downloads. From whatever amount is contributed, every $1 not only helps keep the music going, it also funds one meal for a hungry child.
We have tallied together your digital download contributions, CD sales from our trip to New Orleans and Texas and also added in the tips gathered at Denton Square Donuts and The Boiler Room Coffee House.
We're thrilled to announce that from your participation in this movement the past couple weeks and because of generous sustaining benefactors, 2,028 meals will be given to hungry children around the world via Feed My Starving Children!
We value the work of FMSC especially because each meal isn't just calories to stave off hunger. FMSC meals are scientifically formulated for nutritional balance that has helped children recover from severe malnutrition. Stories of some of the lives changed by these meals, along with photos of the physical transformations that are taking place, are at their website. Jason and I have also participated in packing FMSC meals. It's a great experience to share with friends!
Kids in the Kitchen, a program in Bethel, Alaska, is also close to our hearts. We got to visit with kids in this program last year and we learned a lot about the challenges that Bethel, AK faces with hunger and food costs. Here are some of our photos, video and more of their story.
Kids in the Kitchen is not only working to feed the hungry, they are equipping young people with life skills related to nutrition and meal preparation. They totally rock and we're excited because we're in conversation about a return visit! From our July honorariums, we hope to help provide a week's worth of produce for their program.
Thank you for partnering with us. There are many times we are struck with the reality that we can only keep doing this work with the incredible surrounding of friends and family that we have. It also matters to us that we aren't just sharing songs with good ideas about showing kindness. We want to keep inviting our community to participate together in that movement of love in some tangible ways, stepping to the rhythms of the music's heartbeat and letting our lives be a love song to our world.
May peace embrace us all as we embrace each other.
